Fierce- Google introduced new AdWords location extensions enabling local businesses to feature their location and phone number on expandable map ads appearing on mobile websites and applications across the Google Display Network. The ads–banner displays including a business icon that expands to illustrate a merchant location on a Google map along with the firm’s ad creative, click-to-call phone number and navigation options–can be served according to the smartphone user’s location, identifying the store nearest to their present whereabouts.

Writing on the Google Mobile Ads Blog, marketing team member Dai Pham states the new location-aware ads are available on all mobile devices with full web browsers. “Advertising with location extensions on mobile devices is also great value because you’re only charged when a user clicks to call the business or clicks to visit your website,” Pham adds. “You are not charged when users click to expand the map or gets directions. The cost of a click to call your business will be the same as the cost of a click to visit your website.” Google automatically generates all maps based on the advertiser’s business location.
